Re: Destination Freedom Log

On this day 158 years ago, Ida Bell Wells was born into slavery in Holly Springs, Mississippi. She would go on to help found the NAACP, fight for women's right to vote despite the racism endemic to the suffrage movement, and, in 2020, be awarded a Pulitzer Prize special citation for her fearless documentation of lynchings in the late 1800s.

OTOH, it played on the separate blog entry page for Ida B Wells.

Richard,

I went through your list fairly carefully last night and this morning. Here are my notes:

  • I have 49-04-10 which you are missing. I got it here: https://jheroes.com/real-life-reporters/destination-freedom/
  • You're missing a pre-empted placeholder for 49-05-08
  • You indicate you have 50-04-02. I am missing that one. Jerry, Goldin and Digital Deli all list that as unavailable, so I would love to get a copy of that.
  • 50-04-30/50-05-07. I don't think that's a two-part episode. I show 4/30 as pre-empted. Neither http://www.jfredmacdonald.com/rddf/radiolog.htm or https://www.chipublib.org/fa-richard-durham-papers/ list an episode for that date, nor indicate the 5/7 episode was a two-parter. I think Digital Deli is in error here, though he doesn't exactly say it was a two-parter, either.
  • 50-04-22, I have that one, from OTRR Library (I haven't listened to it to verify it is correct, though). That isn't currently working, so I can send it to you if you would like.
  • There are a number of date disagreements in the 1950 series between Jerry and Digital Deli. I think it will take some time to work out who is correct here:
  •     50-12-03 through 50-12-24
  •     I am nearly positive that Digital Deli is wrong about the episode on 12/10. That, and 12/17, are the same thing. I listened to that episode this morning, and it says both "a strengthened United Nations" (a few different times in the episode) and "Weapons for Peace" at about 27 minutes. The Wisconsin State Journal lists "Weapons for Peace" on 12/17, so I think that's the correct date for the United Nations episode. Note: that script is available in the Chicago Public Library collection (not online, though); I think it was an exhibit in his lawsuit.
  •     51-02-04 through 51-02-11
  •     50-04-01
  •     50-05-06 through 50-06-16
  •     Digital Deli doesn't think there are any episodes after 50-06-30. I think that is correct, as I haven't found any newspaper listings for it after 6/30 either.

Are there any others you have that I do not that I missed?
