OTRR Library - Back online
Paul Kornman
OTRR Library Update: The full Library is back online.
I think everything's working, and I'm sure you'll let me know about any trouble. Details: There's a new system behind the scenes. When a visitor requests a file (not on archive.org) to listen to/download: The file is transferred from a secret location to a spot on our main server that does not charge for each transfer. A record is written to our database with the name of the file, its size, the date, and the IP address of the user who made the initial request. Under this scenario, we have 2TB of transfers per month before we either a) hit a ceiling and transfers are stopped for the month or b) pay an additional yearly fee to boost the transfer allowance. Assuming the Library is working properly, I'll monitor the files and the logs and see how the remainder of February works out. Fingers crossed: I won't have to transfer the entire library for a fifth time since October. - Paul Kornman |

I'm not sure that all of the files are working. I tried a Columbia Workshop that did play, and a Date With Judy that did not work. Not sure if the Columbia Workshop files are on Archive or not (I don't think so). Rodney OTRR Library Update: The full Library is back online. |

Kudos to you. There are about 1% of the files that need some adjustments. A Date with Judy has some of them. I didn't want to wait to flip the switch, and I'll attend to the stragglers as soon as a I can.

On another thought process, are any of you familiar with P2P sharing? I use a program called StrongDC++ to share files via a by invite only hub. There is no cost to use it and the only cost per person would be what their respective ISPs charge them to use their internet. I have 1GB speed and a robust VPN. There is a hub just dedicated to Old Radio shows. You can share your files by selecting by drive, folder or file. The person searching would see what you are sharing after the added files are listed online under your collection. They then just download the file like they were in File Explorer and it is uploaded to them.

I have about 48tb +/- sharing when I am on. I have a backup drive with a copy of the OTRR library recently uploaded to the drive and mailed to me. It is not shared on the DC network. The limitation of this idea now is that only your own connection constraints are what limit you on downloads. It's not too hard to set up and us veterans of the use can walk the others through the setting up. Yes, I too am on various DC++ Hubs, usually 24/7. My present "share size" is about 72TB, and ranges from OTR, Old Movies (some new), Old TV, Old Comics, etc. I only join "private hubs" (for security) and the hubs I'm presently logged into are, "Oldtymeradioman", OTR Hub, PhilsPlace and DooDropInn. I too have 1GB upload/download speeds with unlimited data. By the way, my present computer presently has 10 external Harddrives connected, ranging from 10-18TB, and every drive has two external backup drives. (If you've ever lost all the data on a 10TB+ drive you'll understand the reason for the backups). <>< 73 From "The Beaconeer's Lair" ><> Specializing in DXing NDBs (Longwave Beacons) Phil, KO6BB, http://www.qsl.net/ko6bb/ RADIOS: YAESU: FTDX-101MP Xceiver, Dual SDR Receivers (~2020) YAESU: FTDX-3000 Xceiver, DSP IF, 300Hz Roofing filter (~2019). Hi Bill, Thanks for letting me know. What I got was a "Click to install browser add-on" (or words to that effect. That certainly wasn't there when I did the web site. Unfortunately I created that site many, many years ago (maybe 15
or so) and haven't done any web site work since. haven't even had
software to do it on my 'puter in many years. Let me think about
it a bit. The entire site may have outlived it's usefulness by
now and best be deleted (IF I can, think I remember the password I
used). <>< 73 From "The Beaconeer's Lair" ><> Specializing in DXing NDBs (Longwave Beacons) Phil, KO6BB, http://www.qsl.net/ko6bb/ RADIOS: YAESU: FTDX-101MP Xceiver, Dual SDR Receivers (~2020) YAESU: FTDX-3000 Xceiver, DSP IF, 300Hz Roofing filter (~2019).
